Amira the Dark Elf is the first chapter of the The Journey of a Dark Elf with Fading Powers manga series, written & illustrated by Daisuke Itabashi. It is apart of Volume 1 and released on December 16, 2025.
Plot
The chapter begins with the story of the Omnipotent Caster, a powerful sorceress who could use every kind of magic. Two hundred years ago, she suddenly disappeared from the public eye. In the present day, a cheerful dark elf named Amira walks through the mountains toward the Southern Capital, enjoying the scenery and greeting the birds along the way. Along the way she peacefully defuses a confrontation with a massive ram known as the King of the Mountain by calmly standing her ground, noting that pointless fighting just tires everyone out. While breaking for lunch on a scenic overlook, Amira is finally caught by Lilicena, a horned sorceress who has been chasing her for some time (Amira kept fleeing). Lilicena verifies Amira's identity against a data sample from 235 years and ten months ago, confirming she truly is the long-missing Lady Amira. The heart of the chapter is a cooking sequence. Amira field-dresses a unicorn hare she caught that morning, entirely by hand with a knife, explaining how to remove the horn at the joint, skin it, and extract the organs. Lilicena is baffled that a legendary sorceress would do manual labor, but Amira explains she wanted to learn things she couldn't do with sorcery. The two offer the unused organs to the gods of the mountains, then share the finished cream of unicorn hare stew, which Lilicena grudgingly rates a perfect ten in appearance and a perfect million in taste. Lilicena reveals her purpose, she passed the special-grade mage exam (instituted roughly 300 years ago) on her first try and now teaches at the Kisaro Academy of Sorcery. She offers Amira a position working alongside her. Amira declines and reveals the chapter's core twist, when Lilicena measures her magic force, she finds nothing. Amira has fully exhausted her magic. The Omnipotent Caster is gone, instead, she's just a regular old dark elf now, effectively useless in a world built on the assumption that everyone possesses magic force. Rather than being depressed, Amira has embraced it. She's trained in martial arts (enough to hold her own against Lilicena), learned to cook, hunts by hand, shops for jewelry and fashion at markets, appreciates birdsong, and has even taken up dancing. Having fallen outside the framework of the world, she says, she couldn't possibly be happier, and the next hundred years are bound to make her heart soar. Chapter 1 ends with Lilicena refusing to take no for an answer. Amira does need money with her having blown it all on jewelry again, and as a former Omnipotent Caster she still has things she can teach. Amira agrees to join the Kisaro Academy starting the next day.
