The unicorn hare is a horned hare-like animal hunted by Amira in the mountainous wilderness surrounding Miragus.
Appearance
A unicorn hare resembles a large hare or rabbit with a single horn extending from its forehead.[1]
Characteristics
The horn is connected to the animal at a joint and must be removed before the carcass can be properly prepared. Its hide can be removed from the rear of its body upward, after which its internal organs can be taken out. Care must be taken to avoid damaging the organs during the process.[2]
Unicorn hare meat is edible. Amira used one to prepare cream of unicorn hare stew, which Lilicena praised for both its presentation and flavor.[3]
Plot
Amira hunted a unicorn hare while traveling through the mountains outside Miragus. Before preparing it, she thanked the animal for its life and promised to enjoy the meal made from it. She then removed its horn, hide and organs by hand, surprising Lilicena with her knowledge of field dressing.[4]
Amira used the meat and other ingredients to prepare cream of unicorn hare stew. She also placed a portion of the food as an offering to the gods and rulers of the mountains.[5]
